The most popular canal in the country, the Llangollen is not for the tourist but the purist. Lacking in towns and visitor attractions it is the canal itself that is the attraction.
Out of season is the best time to enjoy this unspoilt canal as over 400 boats a day use it during the summer months. And be aware that, in parts, the draught is only 2ft 3ins.
Some of the many attractions:
Grindley Brook – nearly 20 feet of staircase lock
Chirk – aqueduct and 420 metre tunnel
Pontcysyllte – over 300 metres in length and 42 metres above the River Dee
Cruising for eight hours a day, Llangollen and back to Tattenhall can be completed in a week. But to really enjoy the Canal a two week cruise is recommended. A must for every boaters cv.
